Common causes of cold storage fires

There are two main sources of fire in cold storage: equipment failure and human error.

1. Equipment malfunction

There are many electrical equipment used in cold storage. Lighting fixtures, cold storage motors, transmission equipment, etc. are all important components of cold storage system engineering. Malfunctions or improper use of these electrical equipment can cause fires.

In addition, some cold storage facilities have a long service life, and electrical equipment has problems such as aging and cracking of insulation layers. The probability of wire aging and equipment short circuit faults is also high.

2. Human error

Hot work during the construction, maintenance, and dismantling of cold storage facilities can generate high-temperature welding slag, cutting sparks, and other open flames. If construction personnel fail to follow standard regulations, these open flames are highly likely to ignite combustibles. For example, when dismantling a cold storage, residual gases in the pipelines and a large amount of combustible materials in the insulation layer may ignite and cause a fire when exposed to a source of fire.

In the daily operation of the cold storage, improper management of on-site employees, such as smoking and littering cigarette butts in the cold storage, may also cause fires.
